About Brandon Murdoch (she/her) Counsellor & Art Therapist
On being a therapist
I am so grateful to be welcomed into peoples healing journeys at whichever point they are at.
I deeply believe in the value of counselling and art therapy to support self-awareness, growth, and healing as I have personally and professionally experienced this.
I am keenly aware of the power of sharing knowledge related to common reactions to mental health issues and distressing experiences.
I strive to provide you with the support you need to understand you are not alone in your experience.
My Story
I believe strongly in the importance of working with an empathetic, experienced, and knowledgeable therapist.
Experience and knowledge do not just come from a book. Being a good therapist comes from personal experience and struggles that we have chosen to work through, understand, and heal from for ourselves. This is why I am compelled to share a bit about my life story.
I had humble beginnings growing up in a mobile home trailer park in the Shuswap area of BC. I understand firsthand the complexities of being a child and experiencing family violence, divorce, death of a loved one, and lacking the communication skills or supports to process these experiences.
As a high school graduate, I moved to Kelowna, BC and started my education journey taking a Bachelor of Fine Arts. This is where I discovered much of my art pieces and exhibits were explorations of childhood experiences and struggles, as well as other life difficulties. I then heard about art therapy and one year later I was enrolled in the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma of Art Therapy at the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute in Nelson, BC. Over the next 2 years, I delved deeply into my inner world of hurt, doubt, and anxiety.
I have since completed my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor and Registered Canadian Art Therapist.
In my personal world
I am a mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. These relationships are important to me. I enjoy creating art or doing artful tasks, spending time in nature, cuddling my dog, and enjoying time with my family and friends.

Brandon’s practice, Poplar & Pine Creative Therapy, is located in Whitehorse, Yukon.
